Solar energy – Why?
Clean power from the sun: Photovoltaics has long been regarded as the best response to the greenhouse effect, which is one of the greatest threats to the Earth today. Global warming is being increased by the emission of carbon dioxide which, among other things, is produced when gas, oil and coal are burned. In contrast, energy from the sun is free of CO2 and has an estimated remaining life of more than four million years. Solar energy is virtually inexhaustible.
The Renewable Energy Law (EEG) which has been in effect in Germany since 2004 lays down that operators of photovoltaic systems may feed the electricity generated into the power grid for determined amounts of compensation. The exact amount of compensation depends on the year of the installation, the type of system and its size. In the meantime, many countries in Europe and Asia as well as some of the federal states of the United States of America have enacted similar provisions to promote renewable energy and thus encourage the installation of PV systems Environmental protection is also worthwhile from a financial perspective.
